Gracious Words
Colossians 3:5 onwards
Paul’s writing to the Church in Colossia emphasises deliverance from sexual immorality and evil desires. In the same chapter, he also brings to our attention an essential truth about having control over our words. (Colossians 3: 8) He insists we must eliminate anger, malice, slander, and foul language. Unless we conquer the words that we speak, we can’t conquer the desires of the world – the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
(James 3:1-12) reminds us that if we can bridle the tongue, we bring the whole body under subjection. A mark of matured Christianity is the ability to restrain the tongue from speaking ill of anything or anybody. Since we know that there is life and death in the tongue, let’s be careful about what we speak.
Dear child of God, remember, what comes out of our mouths determines what will happen to our lives; let’s, therefore, be slow to speak. Let’s exercise that habit of keeping quiet rather than speaking out our emotions. (Proverbs 13:3) and be the channels of blessing and inspiration.
