Obedience Above All
Mark 10:17
Here, the young man had the right question for the right person. However, he wasn’t prepared to follow the right answer. When Jesus told him he lacked one thing and that he must sell everything, give it to the poor and follow Him, we went away dejected. This young man missed the most essential truth because he was not determined to follow it. Remember Prophet Samuel’s words to King Saul – God does not delight in sacrifices or offerings, to obey is better than sacrifice, (I Samuel 15:22).
Often, in our lives too, we are eager to learn the Word of God, diligent to meditate on and understand its depth, but when it comes to following or obeying His Word, we fall short. Very similar to the person in the book of James, who sees himself in the mirror, walks away and forgets what he looks like (James 1:23). So, unless we obey or follow the word in action, there is no way that we can experience the power of God’s word. When Jesus said – I have come to do the will of the Father (John 6:38), he meant that whatever the cost, He was willing to obey.
My brothers and sisters, We know the truth that God’s Word lights our path. Only in His light do we see light, and if we fail to walk in that light, we will not discern the way forward. and can’t experience the eternal life or the limitlessness of God in the areas of health, career, finances, love, or favor. May the Lord help us examine our lives and recognize the precious things we may have missed, even though we know the truth and understand what God expects of us.
Blessings!
